Meet-and-greet for Service Employees

Start your career at NS and become part of Dutch society by having daily contact with diverse travelers. This unique track offers you a fantastic opportunity to develop your Dutch language and cultural skills alongside your social skills. You take the first step into the Dutch labor market and can then progress towards Service Employee for Complex Questions or within the rest of the NS organization!

About the department

You will work at one of the following locations: Amsterdam Central, Schiphol, Breda, Eindhoven, or Enschede. You will be assigned a buddy and receive additional support from the Newcomers project team. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD011s6knsU

You need this:

  • You are a status holder.
  • You have a B1+/B2 level of proficiency in the Dutch language.
  • You have a professional level of English proficiency.
  • This is a physically demanding job where you stand and walk a lot at stations.
  • You are willing to work rotating shifts, such as morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. You also work regularly on weekends, for example, two out of three weekends for a full-time job.
  • You are willing to follow a 24-week training program of approximately one day per week. The training often takes place in Amersfoort.
  • After the first 24 weeks of the training program, you will have your own transportation so that you can reach your base within a 45-minute travel time. This is important in the event of train cancellations and during morning and evening shifts when not all trains are running.
  • You are flexible and show understanding, even when travelers are in a bad mood or experience other problems.
  • You maintain an overview, stay up to date with the latest developments at the station, and can find information quickly.
  • You are eager to learn and aware of your own strengths and areas for development, both professionally and personally, and within a team context.

This is the offer:

  • The service employee training program includes, among other things, the Dutch language, communication skills, first aid, and social safety.
  • A starting salary of up to €2,719.80 gross per month based on 36 hours per week and a one-year contract.
  • Very good secondary employment conditions, such as a free NS Business Card (2nd class), an excellent pension scheme, and opportunities for training and education.
  • It is possible to work between 28 and 36 hours per week.
  • Start date of the program: August 1, 2026 .

  •  Then sign up quickly for the meet-and-greet. You can register until May 19, 2026.
  • Please ensure that your CV has been uploaded.
  • You will hear by June 10 at the latest whether you have been selected for the speed date on June 18, 2026, from 13:00 to 17:00 at the NS headquarters in Utrecht.
  • A preparatory session will take place on June 15, 2026, from 14:00 to 15:00, so that you are well prepared for the speed date. It is important that you attend.
  • Travel expenses are reimbursed, but please note that only costs incurred on the day itself for transport from your home to the activity and back will be reimbursed. You will receive a fixed allowance of €0.23 per kilometer, whether you travel by public transport or by car. Please read our travel expense policy carefully.
