TenneT: high-voltage pre-development track - technician
What does TenneT do? TenneT maintains almost 25,000 kilometers of onshore and offshore high-voltage lines with 7,400 employees in the Netherlands and Germany. We are actively involved in the energy transition! TenneT carries out many maintenance projects on high-voltage stations in the West region. That is why we are looking for enthusiastic technicians to maintain high-voltage lines and stations.
High Voltage Pre-Development Track - Technician - 6 months - March 2024
You start the internal High Voltage Pre-Development Track for status holders of 6 months with:
- Technical Dutch course.
- Driving lessons (if you do not yet have a Dutch driver's license).
- Self-study to prepare you for your first safety exam High Voltage: VOP (sufficiently instructed person). You must pass this exam.
- Jobs at the Gouda office about maintenance of high-voltage stations.
- Helping colleagues at high-voltage stations.
- Lessons about Dutch work culture
- Starting salary of gross EUR 2,100 (based on a full-time working week).
- Laptop and phone
- Holiday days 160 hours statutory / 80 hours above statutory based on full-time
- NS business card (business use)
- Travel allowance
- Possibility to participate in the bicycle scheme
What will your follow-up look like after the Pre-Development track:
- Sept 2024: you start in the regular development track (so continue learning in practice and theory!) and receive an annual contract with a starting salary of EUR 2,700
- After 2 years: You are a technician at Tennet. What does that mean?
Technician - Workstation:
As a technician, you locate and analyze malfunctions, resolve them, and report on them. You prepare and carry out maintenance work and ensure accurate reporting. Safety always comes first. You also perform administrative tasks at the stations.
Technician connections - climbing masts:
As a connections technician, you and colleagues carry out inspections and work on high-voltage lines, masts, and cable systems. You locate and analyze malfunctions, resolve them, and report on them. You also prepare and carry out maintenance work and ensure accurate reporting. Safety always has the highest priority.
Please note: The follow-up contracts depend on your study results and efforts. In order to take next steps, you must obtain certain certificates. Guidance will be available from TenneT.
When are you eligible?
- You like technology and you have (training or work experience) in electrical engineering
- You can totally see a long career in high voltage
- Your NL is at least at B1 level
- You have a driving license B, or you want to get your driving license within 3 months, paid for by TenneT.
- You don't mind learning a lot of theory (including self-study!) that you can later use in practice because you work in the high-voltage sector in the Netherlands.
- You are not afraid of heights, we are mainly looking for technicians who also want to work high up in the mast for maintenance

High Voltage Pre-Development Track Technician - 6 months - March 2024
You begin the internal High Voltage Pre-Development Track for refugees, lasting 6 months, including:
- Technical Dutch course.
- Driving lessons (if you don't have a Dutch driver's license yet).
- Self-study to prepare for your first high-voltage safety exam: VOP (Adequately Instructed Person). Passing this exam is a requirement.
- Office tasks in Gouda related to maintenance of high-voltage stations.
- Assisting colleagues at high-voltage stations.
- Lessons on Dutch work culture.
- Starting gross salary of EUR 2100 (based on a full-time workweek).
- Laptop and phone.
- 160 hours legal vacation days / 80 hours above legal basis on a full-time basis.
- NS business card (business use).
- Travel allowance.
- Possibility to participate in the bicycle scheme.
What does your follow-up look like after the Pre-Development track:
- Sep 2024: You start in the regular development track (continuing to learn in practice and theory!) and receive a one-year contract with a starting salary of EUR 2700.
- After 2 years: You are a technician at TenneT. What does that involve?
Technician - Substation: As a technician, you locate and analyze malfunctions, fix them, and report on them. You prepare maintenance activities, carry them out, and ensure accurate reporting. Safety is always a top priority. Additionally, you perform administrative tasks at the stations.Connections Technician - Climbing in Masts: As a connections technician, you conduct inspections and tasks on high-voltage lines, masts, and cable systems with colleagues. You locate and analyze malfunctions, resolve them, and report on them. You also prepare maintenance activities, carry them out, and ensure accurate reporting. Safety always takes precedence.
Note: Subsequent contracts depend on your study results and commitment. To take further steps, you need to obtain specific certificates. Guidance will be provided by TenneT.
Qualifications:
- You enjoy technology and have a background (education or work experience) in electrical engineering.
- A long career in high voltage appeals to you.
- Your Dutch is at least at B1 level.
- You have a driver's license B, or you are willing to obtain it within 3 months, paid for by TenneT.
- Learning a lot of theory (including self-study) doesn't bother you, as you'll apply it later in practice within the Dutch high-voltage sector.
- You have no fear of heights; we are particularly looking for technicians who are willing to work at great heights for maintenance.
