TenneT: high-voltage pre-development track - engineer
What does TenneT do? TenneT maintains almost 25,000 kilometers of onshore and offshore high-voltage lines with 7,400 employees in the Netherlands and Germany. We are actively involved in the energy transition! TenneT carries out many maintenance projects on high-voltage stations in the West region. So we are looking for enthusiastic engineers for planning, designing and installing high-voltage lines and stations.
High Voltage Pre-Development Track - Engineer - 6 months - March 2024
You start the internal High Voltage Pre-Development Track for status holders of 6 months with:
- Technical Dutch course.
- Driving lessons (if you do not yet have a Dutch driver's license).
- Self-study to prepare you for your first safety exam High Voltage: VOP (sufficiently instructed person). You must pass this exam.
- Jobs at the Gouda office about maintenance of high-voltage stations.
- Helping colleagues at high-voltage stations.
- Lessons about Dutch work culture
- Starting salary of gross EUR 2,100 (based on a full-time working week).
- Laptop and phone
- Holiday days 160 hours statutory / 80 hours above statutory based on full-time
- NS business card (business use)
- Travel allowance
- Possibility to participate in the bicycle scheme
What will your follow-up look like after the Pre-Development track:
- Sept 2024: you start in the regular development track (so continue learning in practice and theory!) and receive an annual contract with a starting salary of EURO 3820.
- After 2 years: You are an engineer at Tennet. What does that mean?
Engineer:
- Creating technical specifications and work packages.
- Checking whether technical rules are followed and assessing calculations, drawings, reports and analyzes of others.
- Working together in project teams to coordinate the entire engineering process for maintenance projects at stations and the high-voltage grid.
- Drafting, understanding and applying technical specifications and (international) norms, guidelines and standards. Provide advice on technical alternatives if there are problems.
- Be the first point of contact and timely and thoroughly assess work packages, drawings, calculations and other technical documents submitted by contractors and engineering parties.
Please note: The follow-up contracts depend on your study results and commitment. In order to take next steps, you must obtain certain certificates. Guidance will be available from TenneT.
When are you eligible?
- You like technology and you have (training or work experience) in electrical engineering
- Your NL is at least at B1 level
- You have a driving license B, or you want to get your driving license within 3 months, paid for by TenneT.
- You don't mind learning a lot of theory (including self-study!) that you can later use in practice as an engineer

You will start the internal High Voltage Pre-Development Track for refugees for a duration of 6 months with:
- Technical Dutch course.
- Driving lessons (if you do not yet have a Dutch driver's license).
- Self-study to prepare for your first high-voltage safety exam: VOP (Adequately Instructed Person). You must pass this exam.
- Office tasks in Gouda related to maintenance of high-voltage substations.
- Assisting colleagues at high-voltage substations.
- Lessons on Dutch work culture.
- Starting salary of gross EUR 2100 (based on a full-time workweek).
- Laptop and phone.
- 160 hours of statutory vacation/80 hours of additional vacation based on full-time employment.
- NS business card (for business use).
- Travel allowance.
- Possibility to participate in the bike scheme.
What does your follow-up look like after the Pre-Development track?
- September 2024: You start in the regular development track (continuing to learn in practice and theory!) and receive a one-year contract with a starting salary of EURO 3820.
- After 2 years: You become an engineer at Tennet. What does that involve?
Engineer:
- Creating technical specifications and work packages.
- Verifying compliance with technical rules and assessing calculations, drawings, reports, and analyzes from others.
- Collaborating in project teams to coordinate the entire engineering process for maintenance projects at substations and the high-voltage network.
- Drafting, understanding, and applying technical specifications and (international) standards, guidelines, and norms. Providing advice on technical alternatives in case of problems.
- Being the first point of contact and timely and thoroughly reviewing work packages, drawings, calculations, and other technical documents submitted by contractors and engineering parties.
Note: The continuation of contracts depends on your study results and dedication. To take further steps, you need to obtain certain certificates. Tennet will provide guidance.
When do you qualify?
- You enjoy technology, and you have education or work experience in electrical engineering.
- Your Dutch is at least at B1 level.
- You have a driver's license B, or you are willing to obtain it within 3 months, paid for by TenneT.
- You don't mind learning a lot of theory (including self-study!) that you can later apply in practice as an engineer.
