NS Kickstart Job – IT, Finance and Electrical Engineering

NS is looking for enthusiastic candidates for a Kickstart position in IT, Finance, and Electrical Engineering! This unique one-year program offers you the opportunity to gain relevant work experience within NS while simultaneously developing your professional, language, and cultural skills.

What does the Kickstart Course entail?

The Kickstart Job is a unique 12-month work-study program for refugees with a higher professional or university education (HBO) background. During this program, you'll have the opportunity to gain work experience, develop professionally, and strengthen your position in the job market. The Kickstart Job consists of:

  • A paid workplace within NS in which you are guided by colleagues, a buddy and a team leader;
  • A structured program in four phases in which you are gradually introduced, grow into your role and get to know the Dutch work culture;
  • Coaching and training focused on professional and personal development;
  •  Opportunity to further improve your Dutch in the workplace in combination with business language training;
  •  Orientation on next steps within NS with sustainable work as the goal.

About the department
You will be placed in a team that matches your profile and learning objectives, namely IT (e.g. Management, Platform or Front-End focused on end users), Finance (e.g. purchasing, procurement or business/financial controller) or departments where electrical engineering knowledge is important.

 This is what you need

  • You master the Dutch language at level B2 or higher.
  • You live in the Netherlands and have a valid residence status (status holder).
  • You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or IT
  • You preferably already have work experience in your country of origin or have done volunteer work in the Netherlands in the required field
  • You have previously worked in large organizations. Previous experience in business services, industry, or transportation is preferred.
  • You are available for at least 32 to 36 hours per week.
  • You are eager to learn and aware of your own qualities and development points, both professionally and personally, and within a team context.

This is the recruitment and selection process

  • Refugee Talent Hub makes an initial selection based on the requirements, selecting a maximum of 25 candidates.
  • Selected candidates will be called for a 30-minute telephone interview, during which we will discuss their requirements, motivation, career goals, and connection with previous work experience.
  • Based on these interviews, 15 candidates will be presented to NS
  • There are a maximum of 6 kick-start jobs available for these candidates, followed by at least 2 job interviews at NS
